Without my own language, who am I?
I am just a little bit.
I am just a little bit.
My
confinement is also linguistic,
the
other language,
that one that is not mine,
that one that is not mine,
constrains
me, restricts me,
restrains me.
restrains me.
Banned
from home, silence is the leftover

Have you ever read any of Gloria Anzaldúa's work? I assigned part of her book _Borderlands/La Frontera_ to some of my students this semester. In the chapter, "How to Tame a Wild Tongue," she explores the intrinsic link between language and identity (both personal and societal). I bet you would enjoy reading it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I will take this book.
